On the road again, y'all! And I'm not going to lie: it was hard to get back in the saddle. Fortunately, the Colorado scenery does not disappoint! |
On the ride out of Colorado Springs we stopped at the Garden of the Gods, a national natural landmark since 1971. The key geologic features of the public park are the ancient sedimentary beds of deep-red, pink, and white sandstones and limestone that were deposited horizontally, but have now been tilted vertically by the forces that uplifted the Rocky Mountains. |
Can you see the Kissing Camels?! MWAH! |
We saw mule deer in their natural habitat! |
Today we summited two mountain passes: Ute Pass and Wilkerson Pass. Ute Pass was 9,165 feet and Wilkerson Pass was 9,507 feet. We had never summited 2 passes in one day before; it was a challenge to descend knowing that another climb was on the horizon. |

Well, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Hartsel. Literally... This is it... |
And this is the tiny church we stayed in! |
We all crammed into one room (except for a handful who slept outside) and made the biggest cuddle puddle of the trip so far. |
Right before bed I had to perform minor surgery on my blood blister. As I was climbing earlier today, the elevation made it fill up so much that I thought my fingertip was going to explode. I had to pop it before mother nature did. |
