Within the first 40 miles, I got two flats and ended up falling pretty far behind the group. Sweep had to stay with me, of course. Even still, I got pretty discouraged and rode for a while in fear of getting another. I spent most of the day busting my butt to catch up with the core of the group. Fortunately, I was able to do that at second lunch. But because the day was so long and so hot I almost bonked about 7 miles away from the host. I had to dig deep to finish. Nevertheless, I averaged about 15 mph which is a solid 3-4 mph more than I usually average, partly due to the slight downhill for the first half of the ride and partly due to kicking it into high gear. |

I'm in the land before time, you guys. |

No, seriously. Artesia changed its name to Dinosaur in 1966 to capitalize on its proximity to the Dinosaur National Monument, which is a park that has many dinosaur fossils in sandstone and conglomerate formed during the Jurassic period some 150 million years ago. |

Two Bike & Build routes collided today: SC2SC meet Central. We had the same lunch stop in Dinosaur and finished the ride into Vernal together. It was great to meet some of y'all!!! |

We crossed another state line today too! Dang... These people really are all about dinosaurs. I can't blame them though. Dinosaurs are fascinating and I would love to have seen one as I biked through these desert mountains. Note: There is a very large tumbleweed in my left hand. Utah, you're killing it so far! |
The Catty Corner:
Erika: "We are in the boonies. Do you know what that means Noah?"
Noah (the German): "No. But it sounds like boobies."
