Day 12 - Hartwell, GA to Athens, GA

Apparently today's ride was really great, according to the rest of the gang. But for me it was horrible! I woke up with the plague that's been making its way around. At about mile 4 I started counting down each and every mile, which makes for quite the unenjoyable ride. Also, Athens is the hilliest place I've ever ridden in my life.
These "weeds" were the silver lining of my ride. There were everywhere! And I think that they are absolutely beautiful. Whimsical, even. Actually, they remind me Dr. Seuss's illustrations.
Mama Meg came to my rescue while I was on laundry duty at the coin laundry in Athens. She brought me some Vitamin C to help my sickness. I hope I'm always her Little Lamb...
Tonight we are staying at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Athens. They have been by far the most enthusiastic host we've had so far. The dinner spread that they prepared for us tonight included but was not limited to corn pudding, salmon, green beans, meatballs, chicken casserole, lasagna, and macaroni and cheese.
The church also had the North Georgia Bluegrass Band come and play a private concert for us. I might have started a line dance or two to get the crowd pumped up!
As I briefly mentioned, I've caught the plague that has been going around since orientation. I thought I was in the clear, having made it past the point of catching it, but I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a cloudy head. I don't know how all of the others have been able to ride while being sick because it has made me absolutely miserable. Mentally, I was totally out of the game. It ended up being one of those "cry because this is so hard" kind of days. I'm really hoping that I can shake this sickness quickly. We have another "short" ride tomorrow but on Wednesday we've got our longest yet.

The Catty Corner: While waiting to shower at the YMCA, Erin and I decided to weigh ourselves. Since we've been eating like hogs we both came to discover that we've GAINED weight since starting Bike & Build. I mean a significant amount of weight. Apparently this was so funny that it warranted both of us peeing our pants. Unacceptable...
