Day 21 - Tupelo, MS to Oxford, MS

I tell you what, Mississippi does not disappoint! Overall, I think it has been the most fun state so far... Regardless, my butt has been hurting and it's starting to compromise the enjoyment I get from riding. Maybe my saddle doesn't fit right, I'm not sure. But the discomfort is making it hard for me to stay pumped up about biking everyday. Even still, I'm pushing forward.
The gang (minus those who have fallen to Plague #2) posed for a photo with the host before heading out this morning.
Every day, two riders are designated as "sweep". It is sweep's job to make sure that everyone gets to the next host site safely. Therefore, sweep will stay in the back and stop along the way to help if someone gets a flat or takes a spill. I was on sweep for the first time today with Eric. Some sweep teams come up with catchy names like "Sweep Child Of Mine" or "Sweep Home Alabama". We dubbed ourselves "Mister and Miss Sweepy". Get it? Mississippi...Missi-sweep-i...Miss Sweepy... We win the creativity crown if you ask me!
All I wanted to do was use the woods in peace and quiet but these fellas wanted to socialize. I caved in and gave them what they wanted: a selfie with yours truly.
William Faulkner, the great American writer, is buried directly across the street from our host church. Standard practice when visiting is to take a swig of whiskey, leaving the bottle as a gift. "Between grief and nothing I will take grief."
Shout-out to the hottest toddies I know: Lauren, Caroline, and Anne Hyde. Thank you for your support. I'm happy to finally see a place that I've heard y'all talk about for years! Go cocks, though!
Oxford has possibly one of the cutest yet trendiest downtown areas I've ever seen. The Lafayette County Courthouse stands in the middle of the Square, a shopping and dining hub.
The Catty Corner:
Me: "What is this?! A candy store day care?!"
