Day 22 - Tupelo, MS to Clarksdale, MS

Today's ride was all over the place! Before we even got out of Oxford we hit a construction zone that we ended up walking through even though we were told not to. Then a "gravel" road ended up not being a road at all so we had to walk our bikes. And after lunch we rode a 38 mile stretch of flat, busy highway. Flat sounded nice to me until I realized how windy it was. We could only maintain about 12 mph with the headwinds and it made for a very boring and mentally challenging post-lunch portion.

At one point during today's ride, the road decided to stop being a road. We had to walk our bikes for about a half mile until we found solid ground again. But as we traversed the alien land, we claimed it as our own. One small step for man, one giant pedal for Bike & Build kind?
Today was Mail Drop Day! When I got to the host site after the ride, I had several packages waiting for me. I knew that one was coming, but the other 2 were a surprise. Receiving mail was a much needed pick-me-up after the rough day I had on the road. Thank you Teryl, Aunt Lori, and Aunt Betty for your support!
Tonight we are staying at a canoe shop in the Mississippi Delta. The latest canoe they've built is called the "Grasshopper", which reminds me of my Dad because that's what Harrison and I used to call him.
Clarksdale's claim to fame: the Birthplace of Blues. We couldn't visit Clarksdale without going to see some live music. Ground Zero Blues Club had a band there that played alone at times but also allowed members of the audience to come up and jam with them.
Our very own Dave "DangerZone" Shirk shredded the guitar and had the entire crowd stunned by his sheer talent. Incredible performance, Dave... You nailed it!

Erin: "NO! Not in these shorts!"
(in reference to almost peeing her pants on the walk home and resorting to any and every measure of prevention)
